A large and rare 'triple gourd' porcelain vase with underglaze blue dragon decoration China, Kangxi period H. 72 cm The two lower bulbs painted on a bright blue ground with lively dragons striding amidst luxuriant floral meander bearing large peony, lotus and chrysanthemum blooms, the upper bulb painted with three shaped floral medallions below a band of upright acanthus leaves From an important Spanish Collection, acquired from Christie's South Kensington, 10 November 2006, Lot 321, from the current owner (copy of invoice preserved) Vases of this size and shape are rare. Large-format triple gourd vases were produced in approximately two sizes: either 71 cm or 91 cm. Vases of this size and of the highest quality were very popular and sought after by some of the earliest collectors of underglaze blue and white, including Augustus the Strong (1670-1733), whose collection can be seen in the Zwinger in Dresden. - Restored breaks and cracks along the wall and mouth Große und seltene 'Dreifach-Kürbis'-Vase aus Porzellan mit unterglasurblauem Drachendekor China, Kangxi-Periode H. 72 cm Die beiden unteren Vasenhälften sind auf leuchtend blauem Grund mit Drachen bemalt, die inmitten üppiger Blumenranken mit großen Pfingstrosen-, Lotus- und Chrysanthemenblüten dargestellt sind, die gebauchte Partie unterhalb der Mündung sind mit drei geformten Blumenmedaillons unterhalb eines Bandes aus aufrecht stehenden Akanthusblättern verziert. Bedeutende spanische Privatsammlung, erworben bei Christie's South Kensington, 10.11.2006, Lot 321 (Rechungskopie erhalten) Vasen dieser Größe und Form sind selten. Großformatige Dreifach-Kürbisvasen wurden in etwa zwei Größen hergestellt: entweder 71 cm oder in 91 cm groß. Vasen dieser Größe und von höchster Qualität waren bei einigen der frühesten Sammler von Unterglasur-Blau-Weiß sehr beliebt und begehrt, darunter August der Starke (1670-1733), dessen Sammlung im Zwinger in Dresden zu sehen ist. - Rest.
