Ten-panel folding screen (Byeongpung) with Baeknapdo paintings ("Picture of the Hundred Themes") Korea, Joseon Dynasty, late 19th c. 181 x 342,4 cm (gefaltet/folded 185 x 43,5 x 15 cm) Ink and light colours on silk. Consisting of ten vertical panels affixed with album leaves and fan pictures. Numerous small pictures are arranged like a collage on each panel. The individual depictions show typical motifs of Korean art: landscapes, flowers, birds and genre scenes. Some with inscriptions and seals. From an old Southern German private collection - Cf. a ten-part screen of the same type in The Cleveland Museum of Art, no. 1998.286, dated late 19th century - Partially slight signs of age, minimal repaired Baeknapdo (백납도) literally means "picture of a hundred themes". It describes the style in which many different small individual images (such as landscapes, flowers, birds, animals and everyday scenes) are arranged on a surface like a collage. This special art form was particularly popular in the late Joseon Dynasty (19th to early 20th century) and is characterised by the variety of motifs, the symbolism and the particular artistic freedom. Jahrhunderts- Part. leichte Alterssch., minim. rep. Baeknapdo (백납도) bedeutet wörtlich „Bild der hundert Themen“. Es beschreibt den Stil, bei dem viele verschiedene kleine Einzelbilder (wie Landschaften, Blumen, Vögel, Tiere und Alltagsszenen) collagenartig auf einer Fläche arrangiert werden. Diese spezielle Kunstform war besonders in der späten Joseon-Dynastie (19. bis frühes 20. Jahrhundert) beliebt und ist durch die Vielfalt der Motive, die Symbolik und die besondere künstlerische Freiheit gekennzeichnet.
