In the style of Yu Zhiding (1647–1716) China, Qing Dynasty 61,5 x 37,5 cm / 82 x 57 cm The Bodhisattva Guanyin standing on a lotus flower. Framed, 61.5 x 37.5 cm, gold pigment on black-tinted paper. Artist’s signature: ‘Painted by the subject Yu Zhiding.’ Two seals of the artist: ‘Seal of the subject Zhiding’ (chen Zhiding yin), ‘Painted with reverence’ (jing hui). Top right, an inscription by Liu Lun (1711-1773): a seven-word poem, signed: ‘Respectfully written by the Buddhist disciple Liu Lun’. Two seals: “Subject Lun” (chen Lun), “Respectfully written” (jing shu). Old South German private collection, collected before 1990 Yu Zhiding was, for a time, court painter to the Kangxi EmperorÄera (1662-1722) and also held a post in the Ministry of Rites. He worked primarily as a figure painter and also produced portraits using the pure line technique. This depiction of the Bodhisattva Guanyin, standing on lotus petals and pouring nectar from his flask, could be a later imitation of his style. Liu Lun was a Hanlin scholar, minister and Grand Secretary at the imperial court during the Qianlong era. He was also a renowned poet and calligrapher who, as co-compiler of the imperial catalogue of calligraphy and painting, Shiqu baoji, was commissioned by the emperor to inscribe images from the imperial collection. Signatur des Künstlers: „Gemalt vom Untertan Yu Zhiding.“ Zwei Siegel des Künstlers: „Siegel des Untertans Zhiding“ (chen Zhiding yin),„Ehrerbietig gemalt“ (jing hui). Rechts oben eine Aufschrift von Liu Lun (1711-1773): Sieben-Wort-Gedicht, signiert: „Ehrerbietig geschrieben vom Buddhaschüler Liu Lun“. Zwei Siegel: „Untertan Lun“ (chen Lun), „Ehrerbietig geschrieben“ (jing shu). Alte süddeutsche Privatsammlung, vor 1990 gesammelt Yu Zhiding war zeitweiliger Hofmaler in der Kangxi-Ära (1662-1722) und hatte auch ein Amt im Ritenministerium inne. Er arbeitete vor allem als Figurenmaler und schuf auch Porträts in der reinen Linientechnik. Diese Darstellung des Bodhisattvas Guanyin, der auf Lotosblüten stehend Nektar aus seiner Flasche ausgießt, könnte eine spätere Nachahmung seines Stils sein. Liu Lun war Hanlin-Gelehrter, Minister und Großkanzler am Kaiserhof der Qianlong-Zeit. Daneben war er ein namhafter Dichter und Kalligraph, der als Mit-Kompilator des Kaiserlichen Kalligraphie- und Malereikataloges Shiqu baoji im kaiserlichen Auftrag auch Bilder der kaiserlichen Sammlung mit Aufschriften versah.
