A Buddhist painting depicting Buddha Shakyamuni on a lotus throne China, 17th/ 18th cent. 145 x 71 cm Ink and colours on paper, mounted as a hanging scroll with brocade. The historical Buddha Shakyamuni sits in the lotus position (Dhyanasana) at the centre of the picture. His right hand is raised, whilst his left hand rests relaxed in his lap. He is enthroned on a large, fully opened lotus flower, which rests on a richly decorated, octagonal pedestal. On one of the lower levels, two smaller, kneeling guardian figures or disciples can be seen paying homage to the Buddha. Behind his head is a green nimbus, surrounded by a large, circular halo with radiant, colourful patterns of flames and light. Above him stretches an ornate canopy amidst stylised, colourful cloud formations. Der historische Buddha Shakyamuni sitzt im Lotossitz (Dhyanasana) im Zentrum des Bildes. Seine rechte Hand ist erhoben, während die linke Hand entspannt im Schoß ruht. Er thront auf einer großen, voll entfalteten Lotosblüte, die auf einem reich verzierten, achteckigen Podest. Auf einer der unteren Ebenen sind zwei kleinere, kniende Wächterfiguren oder Jünger zu sehen, die dem Buddha huldigen. Hinter seinem Kopf befindet sich ein grüner Nimbus, der von einer großen, kreisförmigen Gloriole mit strahlenförmigen, bunten Flammen- und Lichtmustern umgeben ist. Über ihm spannt sich ein kunstvoller Baldachin inmitten von stilisierten, farbenfrohen Wolkenformationen. Alte europäische Privatsammlung - Min. Alterssch., die Montierung besch.
