Thangka painted on cotton, depicting four of the Sixteen Great Arhats (also known as Sthavira), the “Elders” or “Sages” of Buddhism who attained enlightenment, represented seated within a lush landscape populated with waterfalls and animals, accompanied by worshippers: upper left, Bhadra with the right hand raised; upper right, Vajriputra seated on a throne holding a fly-whisk; lower left, Kanakavatsa holding a jewel lasso with both hands; and lower right, Kanaka Bharadvaja seated upon an elaborate throne.
