"Imperial honorary edict scroll on multicolored damask silk woven with dragons and stylized clouds in shades of yellow, cream, red, brown, and blue. The text features two different scripts: one in Chinese (written from right to left) and the other in Manchu (written from left to right), the language of the ruling Qing dynasty. The inscriptions employ the classical imperial formula ?????????? (“By Mandate of Heaven, the Emperor decrees…”) and mention several high-ranking administrative and military offices of the Qing Empire, including the Prefect of Chengdu, the Governor of Henan, the Provincial Administration Commissioner of Guangdong, the Minister of War, and the Military Commander of Rehe. The ensemble most probably corresponds to an imperial honorary decree or nomination edict of the gaoming or chiming type. A date appears to be readable as the 15th year of the Daoguang reign, corresponding to circa 1835 (??????????). China, Qing dynasty, Daoguang Emperor period, circa 1835, 19th century.
