A leporello featuring poems and depictions of priests Japan, 18th c. 24 x 21 und 17,7 x 17,6 cm An album comprising a total of 106 pages with shikishi attached; the first 72 consist of poetry sheets bearing the poets’ names, followed by a portrait of each poet; these areare most likely from the anthology ‘Hyakunin isshu’ (One Hundred Immortal Poets), pp. 75 to 84 containing poetry sheets bearing the poet’s name, each with a kiwamefuda attributing the sheet to a specific calligrapher, and pp. 85 to 106 containingpoetry leaves bearing the poet’s name. Pasted in front of the first page is a handwritten table of contents in English with a transcription of all the poets’ names; the poets’ names are also pasted onto each page in handwritten transcription. Blank pages. Ink and light colours on paper with gold-painted patterns. Brocade-covered covers; the reverse of the covers is painted with clematis tendrils and autumn grasses in colour on gold-painted silk. Accompanied by various calligraphers’ works. 12 small shikishi with waka poems. Ink on silk with small gold patterns. Accompanied by paper strips (kiwamefuda) bearing an attribution to a calligrapher by the expert Hatakeyama Gyuan III. (Seal: Zuidô). Vor der ersten Seite eingeklebt eine handschriftliche Inhaltsangabe auf Englisch mit Transkription sämtlicher Dichtername, die Dichternamen auch in handschriftlicher Transkription auf jede Seite geklebt.
