A thangka depicting the wheel of life, bhavachakra Tibet, late 19th c. 80 x 61 / 116 x 78 cm The painting is depicting the Lord of Death, Yama, holding the Wheel of Life, the centre showing a cock, pig and snake, surrounded by a band consisting of figures surrounded by six sections, each showing a scene of the hell or present world headed by Begtse or Buddha figure , encompassed by the ultimate ring containing twelve scenes depicting the schema that the Buddha offered to understand the biological process of life and death, the upper register with the standing Buddha and reclining deer, in brocade mounting on a stretcher frame.
