A CHINESE WHITE JADE DRAGON SEAL, HAN DYNASTY (206 BC–220 AD)

A finely carved white jade seal surmounted by a dragon, symbolizing power, protection, and auspicious fortune. The base bears an inscription in ancient zhuànshū (seal script): 出入平安. “Safety and peace wherever you go.” The translucent jade displays warm amber and russet tones. Height 6 cm. PROVENANCE From a private Canadian collection. Formerly from Mr. Huang Zhi-Ming, a Taiwanese private collector. Mr. Huang acquired the jade pieces in Hong Kong. Some from Mr. Lai Loy (1926 - 2012), a jade dealer on Hollywood Road well known for handling and supplying archaic jade pieces to collectors, museums and other dealers and some some from private collectors in Hong Kong.
