Seven volumes in Japanese stabbed bindings, yellow covers, title label to each. With 10 woodblock map illustrations in VoI I. Japanese title, Senchu Juhasshiriaku Kohon. The Shibashi Ryaku was originally compiled by the Yuang dynasty scholar Zeng Xianzhi as a primer on Chinese history from its mythical origins through the Song dynasty. The annotator and editor Kondo Gensui (1850?1922), was a prominent Japanese scholar of Chinese classics. Osaka, Meiji 13, (1880), published by Meizendo. The Shibashi became enormously popular in Japan in the Meiji period. This set would have been used as an educational text for teaching classical Japanese. 26cm x 18cm.
