New Code of Law, Revised Code and Examples Comparison Volume', incomplete in three books, Vols II, III and V. Pale yellow wraps, side stitched. With pasted on title labels. The Shinritsu Koryo or New Outline of Criminal Regulations was enacted in 1870 and was the Meiji Government's first penal code. It was based on traditional law codes from the Ming and Qing dynasties. Kaitei Kitsurei, the Revised Criminal Regulations of 1873 updated the Shinritsu Koryo and introduced some Western legal concepts, while slightly lessening the severity of some punishments. Tahi Gokan, Comparative Combined volume, presents both codes side-by-side for direct comparison. 18.5 x 13cm.
