He wrote a series of mathematics textbooks, aimed at children through to teachers and adults. This translation reflects the growing importance of Western science and mathematics to Japan and its rapidly growing embrace of Western educational methods. These volumes would have introduced the concepts of Western algebra to Japanese students and scholars for the first time. 22 x 15cm.Written in kanji, the books use Western algebraic notation, such as 7a = 4a + 3a, to express equations.
