A LARGE MIRRORED PAIR OF CHINESE QINGBAI PORCELAIN FUNERARY 'DRAGON' JARS, SOUTHERN SONG DYNASTY

Covered in a finely crackled qingbai glaze, the colour of which varies from the top to the bottom of the jars, with the most blue colour around the mid point. The upper sections applied with various decorative motifs, featuring a dragon entwined around the neck. Unusually, the eyes of each dragon, and the tips of the horns that run along the back of one dragon, have been darkened with iron brown glaze. Standing around a ridge of pie crust banding on each jar are twelve human figures. There is a wide variety of other moulded and applied decorations including the sun, clouds, tortoises, snakes, birds and other human figures, probably seated Gods. They each have a conical cover also decorated with applied loops with a crane seated on top. Total 76.5 cm and 78 cm tall. (2). 品相： The jars themselves have no sign of restoration or repair, although, as expected, there are losses to the more vulnerable parts of the appliqu?s, such as the ends of the dragon claws and horns, and part of one leg. Both cranes have been neatly re stuck to their covers. One of the covers has a couple of small chips to the edge. There is also minor glaze flaking to the lower body on both jars, as is often the case with qingbai glazed wares of this type.
