拍品描述

Made from quite a high fired creamy white pottery that has been cold painted in various coloured pigments, very good traces of which have survived. The mask is the face of a fantastical horned creature, with bulging eyes, bearing its teeth, much like an 'earth spirt', whose purpose was to ward away evil and malevolent spirits. It was originally nailed to a wooden door - interestingly, the remains of one of the original iron nails is still in place. Mounted on a purpose made perspex display stand. Height of mask not including the stand, 36 cm. 品相: Possibly restoration as would be expected to vulnerable areas but not obvious.
