A Persian painted papier-mâché box and cover, late 19th century, of canted corner rectangular form, the top painted and gilt with a court scene of a ruler and attendants above a border of gilt script, revealing a compartmentalized interior with removable tray, the sides with further figural scenes, length 35cm (minor faults).
