Finely embroidered in gold thread with ten five-clawed dragons chasing flaming pearls within coloured silk circular cartouches formed from bats and ruyi-shaped clouds, the red wool ground woven in silk threads with bats, ruyi-shaped clouds, knots, flowerheads and Buddhist emblems rising from the terrestrial diagram and Iishui stripe, lined with blue silk, 104 cm long Provenance: William Faull (1861-1927), a merchant trader between Britain and the Far East, thence by descent.The design is similar to that used by court officials, see the similar red wool robe dated 1830, which was gifted by a magistrate to a temple sculpture of a Daoist deity, in the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum, London (T.290-1962). 品相： Overall in very good decorative order. The colours are bright and the embroidery is very fine. There are some relatively minor areas of pulling to the gold thread, small patch of wear with two very small holes to front, minor wear to cuffs and hem.
