拍品描述
A Chinese Embroidered Blue Silk Dragon Robe, Second Half 19th Century 晚清 藍緞地綉龍紋袍 With eight gold-embroidered four-clawed dragons (no "hidden" dragon in the overlap) among colorful cloud scrolls and auspicious Buddhist symbols, above a lishui border with four "dragon-fish" and gold-outlined peonies. Note: The present robe, with its finely stitched, colorful embroidery, gold thread dragons and gold outlining to the peonies would have been commissioned by a wealthy, non-imperial individual. The inclusion of the dragon-fish above the wave border suggest it may have been made for a minor official who had recently "jumped the dragon gate" (successfully passed the official exams), allowing him to become a member of the Imperial administration. Height approx 52 in., 132 cm. This lot is located in Philadelphia. Provenance: Private Collection, Main Line, Philadelphia. 品相: Overall very good condition with only slight soiling and minor muting to colors. Small area of insect damage and soiling near one button closure; black ribbed steeves shortened by folding onto themselves several times and joined with a basting stitch; scattered loose threads, a few scattered small spots Additional photos are updated before the sale via this link https://asian.smugmug.com/Sale-6513.
