Four Chinese Glass Overlay Snuff Bottles, 18th-20th Century 清 套料鼻烟壺四支 -The first, late 19th century, glass of flattened rounded-rectangular form, the shoulders sloping to a waisted lipped neck, with a flat lip and protruding oval footrim, the body opaque white with single brown overlay carved with a sage and his attendant standing beside a tree and a two-character seal, the reverse with a scholar on horseback and his walking attendant crossing a bridge, the narrow sides with elongated mask and mock-ring handles, the lip and footrim also carved from the overlay. Possibly Yangzhou. -The second, circa 1780-1850, glass of flattened ovoid form, the shoulders sloping to a cylindrical neck, the lip flat, the recessed foot surrounded by a neatly carved oval footrim, the caramel-brown body overlaid in emerald green, finely carved to depict a continuous scene of lotus leaves, pods and flowers rising from waves, the footrim also carved from the overlay. -The third, 20th century, possibly later, glass of small ovoid form, with a wide mouth, flat lip, slightly everted neck and protruding oval footrim, the black body with a well-carved bright green and chartreuse overlay depicting continuous leafy vines with gourds, the footrim also carved from the overlay, the base with a four-character incised mark in seal script -The fourth, 19th century, glass of circular form, the shoulders sloping to a slightly waisted neck, with a concave lip and protruding oval footrim, the bubble-suffused body with well-carved overlay of playful monkeys in six colors, the footrim also carved from the overlay Largest height without stopper 2 7/16 in., 6.2 cm.
