Six polychrome masks Indonesia H. 15-20 cm The six masks in the style of Wayang Topeng are carved from wood and painted in polychrome. The sculptural moulding, for example on the bulging eyes or the mouth carved in an opening, testifies to the high level of craftsmanship of the maker, as do the elaborate ornamental decorations in the style of a semi-relief. From an old South German private collection, acquired before 2007 - Rubbed, partly min. damaged, part. rest. drying cracks - four of the masks mounted on bases Sechs polychrome Masken Indonesien H. 15-20 cm Die sechs Masken im Stil des Wayang Topeng sind aus Holz geschnitzt und polychrom gefasst. Die plastische Formgebung, etwa an den hervorquellenden Augen oder dem im Durchbruch gearbeiteten Mund, zeugt von der hohen Kunstfertigkeit des Herstellers, ebenso die aufwendigen ornamentalen Verzierungen nach Art eines Halbreliefs. Aus einer alten süddeutschen Privatsammlung, vor 2007 erworben - berieben, teils min. bestoßen, part. rest. Trocknungsrisse - vier der Masken auf Sockeln montiert
