One of the most famous and festive figures of Japanese Noh theatre is depicted: the Shojo (a mythological sea spirit). He wears a long, shaggy red wig and a splendid robe in bold red and holds a fan in his right hand. Signed: Edokoro Azukari Shōgoi-no-ge Tosa no Kami Fujiwara Mitsuzane (Painted by Fujiwara Mitsuzane, head of the Imperial Painting Office, holder of the Junior Fifth Court Rank and Governor of Tosa).
