Pair of wooden Buddhist lions with red and gold lacquer frame South China, 19th c. H. 24,8 cm The two lions are depicted in an almost mirror-image pose: both in an upright position with their forelegs raised and their heads tilted to the side. One of them is holding a ball in his paws, while the other is holding the head of a young cub stretching up towards him with his paws. East German private collection, largely acquired from the 1970s to the 1990s - rubbed Paar hölzerne Buddhistische Löwen mit Rot- und Goldlackfassung Südchina, 19. Jh. H. 24,8 cm Die beiden Löwen sind in nahezu spiegelbildlicher Haltung dargestellt: beide in aufrechter Haltung mit erhobenen Vorderbeinen und schräg geneigtem Kopf. Einer der beiden hält einen Ball in den Pranken, während der andere mit seinen Pfoten den Kopf eines sich zu ihm emporreckenden jungen Tieres hält.
