Jean Joseph Espercieux (French, 1757-1840) Attributed Marquis de Mirabeau Terracotta Sculpture, circa 1801, the figure standing on integral square base, together with Certificate of Authenticity. 17.75" H x 6.5" W x 6" D. Provenance: The Estate of Gilbert C. Maurer, Director and Former COO of Hearst, Former President of the Whitney Museum Board, and Director and Trustee of the Norton Museum of Art in Palm Beach, Florida. Note: This sculpture is possibly a study for the statue commissioned of the artist, placed on display in 1814 at the top of the grand staircase leading to the Chamber of Peers at the Luxembourg Palace, Paris.
