A CHINESE WARRING STATES OR POSSIBLY QIN DYNASTY, GREY POTTERY JAR WITH INCISED MARKS This large and generously shaped pottery jar was made during the Warring States Period (475 – 221 BC) or possibly during the Qin Dynasty (221 – 206 BC). It is made from a relatively high-fired dense grey pottery. It has a smo oth burnished surface which has been decorated with three sets of incised twin bands surrounding the shoulder. In places the surface has “sagged” a little either before or during firing. There is a firing cra ck to the outer lower body and to the edge of the mouth is a defect where the pottery is misshapen; this area comprises all original pottery so the “defect” obviously occurred during manufacture and prior to firing. 38cm x 31cm
