拍品描述

A JAPANESE SILVER & MIX METAL LIDDED RECTANGULAR BOX, MEIJI PERIOD (1868-1912) Of rectangular form, the exterior crafted from silver with finely executed woven-style basketweave panels decorating the sides, each interlaced element crisply defined. The fitted lid is inset with a smooth, darkened metallic ground upon which two fan-shaped reserves are engraved, each containing delicate landscape vignettes—one showing a thatched structure amid trees, the other with grasses and foliage—executed in contrasting mixed-metal tones. The interior is finished in a dark, subtly speckled surface, the rim neatly bordered. The base is plain, with a consistent silver finish reflecting the same basketweave patterning seen on the sides. Boxes of this type were used for storing writing implements, seals, documents, or small personal items, and exemplify Meiji-period metalworkers’ interest in combining traditional motifs with technical virtuosity in mixed-metal decoration. Measurements: Length 14 cm; Width 10 cm; Height 5 cm
