A PAIR OF FAMILLE ROSE WINE CUPS, GUANGXU PERIOD A PAIR OF FAMILLE ROSE WINE CUPS Guangxu Period (1875–1908) Each cup is thinly potted with a flared rim and gently rounded sides rising from a short foot. The exterior is decorated on a turquoise-ground enamel with chrysanthemums and leafy stems painted in soft sepia and white enamels, interspersed with small flying birds. A line of iron-red characters encircles the upper register beneath the rim. The glaze presents a smooth, glossy surface with minor firing speckles visible. The interiors are left plain white, and the rims show small areas of expected wear. The bases are neatly finished and each bears an iron-red four-character mark enclosed within a circular footrim. The underside glaze shows light firing imperfections consistent with late Qing porcelain. Porcelain wine cups of this type were used in both domestic and ceremonial contexts, their enamelled decoration reflecting the refined palette and auspicious floral themes favoured during the Guangxu reign.
