A CHINESE BLUE & WHITE "COURT TILE" Kangxi Period (1662–1722) Painted in rich cobalt tones on a circular porcelain body, the tile depicts a courtly scene arranged before an architectural screen. Two elegantly robed figures stand to the right, the foremost holding a tablet, accompanied by an attendant. At the left, an elderly figure approaches, framed against a balustrade and stylised pine branches. The foreground is patterned with a chequered floor, upon which animals, including a deer and smaller fauna, are positioned. The surface shows scattered firing speckles and minor abrasion consistent with age. The reverse is unglazed and smoothly finished, with a wide recessed footrim showing firing residues and small glaze adhesions around the perimeter. Tiles of this type were produced as decorative wall or architectural elements, their figural scenes reflecting courtly themes and auspicious symbolism suitable for elite domestic or ceremonial interiors.
