A CHINESE FRENCH MOUNTED WUCAI VASE, KANGXI PERIOD (1662-1722) Painted in a bright wucai palette of green, iron-red, and yellow enamels on a white ground, the baluster body depicts figures in a landscape, including an elegant female rider on a fantastical beast and an attendant holding a parasol. Further scenes show garden rocks, palm-like foliage, and pavilions rendered with fluid brushwork. The surface shows fine craquelure throughout. The vase is fitted with later French gilt-bronze mounts at the mouth and foot, each cast with linear and scroll ornament. The underside is largely concealed by the gilt-bronze foot mount. Wucai vessels of the Kangxi period were produced for both domestic and export markets, characterised by their crisp drawing and balanced use of underglaze blue and overglaze enamels. Such vases were often later adapted in Europe with gilt-bronze mounts for use as decorative furnishings. Measurements: Height 34 cm
