A CHINESE FAMILLE ROSE FIGURE OF A STANDING LADY, WITH INSCISED MARK, REPUBLIC PERIOD The figure is modelled as a standing lady, elegantly poised with the body slightly inclined and the head turned in gentle contemplation. Her face is delicately rendered, with finely arched brows, narrow eyes and small red lips, framed by black enamelled hair arranged in an elaborate high coiffure. The figure is hollow to the interior and bears an incised mark to the underside. She is richly enamelled in famille rose colours, the robes arranged in layered sections of pink, yellow, blue and white. The upper garment is decorated with dense floral sprays against a vivid pink ground, while the lower robe is worked with scrolling blue ornament and scattered blossoms on a yellow ground. A blue shawl or collar, painted with white scrollwork and small floral details, falls across the shoulders, adding depth and contrast to the composition. The lady holds a coral-coloured lingzhi-form object in her hand, an auspicious motif traditionally associated with longevity and good fortune. The subject reflects a long-standing Chinese taste for refined female figures, in which graceful posture, elaborate dress and symbolic attributes combine to evoke ideals of beauty, elegance and cultured leisure. The bright palette and decorative density are characteristic of Republic-period porcelain figure production, when potters drew upon Qing imperial famille rose traditions while adapting them to a more pictorial and ornamental style.
