A SMALL GEYAO PEAR-SHAPED VASE YUAN/MING DYNASTY, 14TH-16TH CENTURY The vase is elegantly potted in pear-shaped form, rising from a short foot to a swelling lower body, tapering through a slender neck and finishing with a small, subtly flared mouth. Its compact proportions give the vessel a quiet refinement, the form balanced between delicacy and restraint. The surface is covered in a soft grey-green glaze suffused with a pronounced network of crackle. The crazing, stained in warm russet and ochre tones, creates the distinctive visual texture associated with Geyao-type wares, where the glaze itself becomes the principal decorative feature. The darker pooling around the foot and lower body adds depth to the otherwise pale, misted surface. Geyao wares were long admired within the Chinese ceramic tradition for their subtle glaze effects and controlled simplicity.
