A LONGQUAN CELADON DISH SOUTHERN SONG DYNASTY (1127-1279) The dish is finely potted with a shallow rounded well, gently flared sides and a neatly finished rim, raised on a short circular foot. It is covered overall in a soft bluish-green Longquan celadon glaze, pooling more deeply toward the well and thinning at the rim and foot to a warmer buff tone. The surface displays a fine network of crackle beneath the glaze, giving depth and texture to the otherwise restrained form. The underside is similarly glazed, with the unglazed foot ring revealing the warm-toned body beneath. The simplicity of the profile allows the luminous glaze to remain the principal decorative feature. Longquan celadon wares of the Southern Song period are celebrated for their quiet refinement, balanced proportions and subtle glaze effects. This small dish reflects the period’s taste for understated elegance, where form, glaze colour and tactile finish combine to create an object of considerable visual calm and sophistication.
