AN EXCEPTIONAL CHINESE JADE DISC SET ON A DIAMOND MOUNT, WITH A GOLD CHAIN, REPUBLIC PERIOD The pendant is centred by a circular green jade disc of polished bi form, the stone of rich colour and rounded profile, set within a refined precious-metal mount. A small diamond-set boss secures the centre, while the upper section is formed as a stylised fan, its radiating segments pavé-set with diamonds and articulated above the jade by two circular diamond-set links. The design combines traditional Chinese jade symbolism with the fashionable language of early twentieth-century jewellery. The disc form evokes harmony, continuity and completeness, while the fan-shaped surmount introduces a decorative motif associated with elegance, refinement and courtly taste. The use of diamonds and a gold chain reflects the Republic-period appetite for adapting classical Chinese materials into modern, wearable luxury objects. The contrast between the saturated green jade, bright diamond setting and delicate chain gives the pendant a striking balance of substance and delicacy.
