A PAIR OF CHINESE JADE DISC EARRINGS SET ON GOLD, REPUBLIC PERIOD Each earring is centred by a circular green jade disc of rounded bi form, the stone polished to a soft lustre and set within a warm gold mount. The discs are framed by a twisted rope border, giving the pair a strong decorative outline, while a small floral gold boss at the centre provides a delicate point of relief against the translucent green stone. The reverse reveals the screw-back fittings and gold construction, indicating their function as wearable jewels rather than purely ornamental mounts. The combination of jade and gold reflects an enduring Chinese taste for precious materials with auspicious associations: jade was valued for purity, refinement and moral virtue, while the circular disc form carries connotations of harmony and completeness. Made during the Republic period, the earrings belong to a moment when traditional Chinese materials and forms were frequently adapted into modern jewellery settings. Their compact scale, symmetrical design and richly worked gold borders give them a refined, decorative character suited to early twentieth-century personal adornment. Diameter: 1.4cm Total Weight: 5g
