拍品描述

A CHINESE JADE & GOLD RING, REPUBLIC PERIOD The ring is set with an elongated marquise-shaped green jade cabochon, mounted horizontally within a gold claw setting. The stone has a polished, glassy surface and a rich green tone, its pointed oval form giving the jewel a strong, elegant profile. The raised mount is supported by openwork shoulders, with slender gold struts and leaf-like details extending from the hoop to the setting. The gold work is decorative yet restrained, designed to frame and elevate the jade rather than overwhelm it. The side views show the stone held high above the finger, while the close detail of the hoop reveals impressed Chinese characters to the inner band, adding a further point of interest and suggesting a culturally specific commission or ownership context. During the Republic period, jade jewellery continued to occupy a place of particular prestige, drawing on the material’s long associations with refinement, purity and auspicious virtue. In this ring, the traditional value of jade is combined with a more modern jewellery form, reflecting the period’s taste for wearable personal adornment in gold mounts. Compact but visually striking, the ring is a refined example of Republic-period jade jewellery, notable for the saturated green cabochon, elegant open gold setting and the inscribed detail to the inner hoop. Length of Stone: 1.5cm Internal Diameter: 1.5g Weight: 3g
