A CHINESECELADON GLAZED DISH, QIANLONG (1736-1795) The dish is of broad circular form with a shallow well, gently rounded sides and a neatly finished foot, covered in a pale celadon glaze of soft blue-green tone. The surface provides a refined ground for the delicately enamelled decoration, its cool glaze lending the piece an elegant and restrained visual character. The interior is painted with flowering branches and leafy stems arranged in an open, asymmetrical composition. Pink blossoms, blue and yellow chrysanthemum-like flowers, green foliage and fine dark stems are set against the luminous celadon ground, with a small iron-red bat motif adding a lively auspicious accent to the design. The floral decoration evokes themes of renewal, abundance and seasonal beauty, while the bat, a traditional symbol of good fortune, introduces a further layer of auspicious meaning. The spacing of the design allows the pale glaze to remain prominent, balancing decorative richness with the clarity and restraint associated with refined Qing taste. Dating to the Qianlong period, the dish reflects the period’s interest in technically accomplished surfaces, elegant colour harmonies and the adaptation of auspicious natural motifs to porcelain forms intended for cultured domestic or display use. The combination of celadon glaze and famille-rose-style enamelling gives the piece both softness and decorative vitality. A graceful Qianlong celadon-glazed dish, distinguished by its pale ground, delicate floral enamelling and auspicious bat motif. Diameter: 28cm
