A FINE PAIR OF FAMILLE ROSE WINE COOLERS, KANGXI-QIANLONG 17TH-18TH CENTURY A fine pair of Chinese porcelain wine coolers, each of cylindrical form with small applied side handles and slightly everted rim. The exterior is richly enamelled in famille rose and underglaze blue with dense flowering branches, including peony, chrysanthemum and other auspicious blooms, set against a pale ground. The shoulder is decorated with a colourful border of floral and diaper-pattern panels, while the interiors are plain glazed. These vessels belong to the tradition of Chinese export porcelain made for European use. Wine coolers of this form were produced in China for Western dining and entertaining, particularly during the late Kangxi, Yongzheng and Qianlong periods, when Chinese workshops adapted porcelain forms to European table habits. The decoration combines Chinese auspicious floral imagery with the bright palette associated with famille rose enamelling, which became highly fashionable in the 18th century. Condition details visible in the images include minor rim wear, light staining and firing specks to the interiors, and wear/discolouration to the unglazed foot rims. The decoration remains bright and highly decorative. Height: 19 cm Diameter: 20 cm
