A rare Chinese Canton famille rose saucer inscribed 'Dr. D. Young', 19th C. Dia.: 14,4 cm Provenance: - The Geoffrey Middle Collection, UK. This inscribed Canton famille rose service forms part of a rare group of mid-19th-century Chinese export porcelains bearing personalised English inscriptions. Each piece is inscribed on a reserved band: 'Dr. D. Young. With Tang Kah Sheong's best compliments.' A related saucer from the same service is illustrated by David Sanctuary Howard (vol. II, p. 685), who compares it to a similarly inscribed blue and white service presented to Dr. G. H. B. Wright, both likely gifts from grateful patients.
