PROPERTY OF A GENTLEMAN woodblock print, surimono, embellished with metallic pigment and embossing, from the series Meng Qiu (Mogyu), signed Hokkei, privately issued for the Flower Garden Poetry Circle (Hanazono-ren), circa 1820 (the first) woodblock print, surimono, embellished with metallic pigment and embossing, from the series The Seven Gods of Fortune (Shichifukujin no uchi), signed Aoigaoka Hokkei, circa 1820s (the second) Shikishiban surimono: 20.5 x 18 cm, 8⅛ by 7⅛ in. (the first) Shikishiban surimono: 21 x 18.5 cm, 8¼ by 7¼ in. (the second) Daikokuten is portrayed smoking a kiseuru pipe, his lucky mallet jutting out of his pocket. He gazes at a tray of flowering adonis (fukujuso).
