PROPERTY FROM THE PULVERER COLLECTION OF JAPANESE PRINTS woodblock print, embellished with silver mica to the collar and embossing on the white sash and inner robe, from the series Beauties of the Yoshiwara as Six Floral Immortals (Seiro bijin Rokkasen), signed Eishi zu (Pictured by Eishi), censor’s seal kiwame (approved), published by Nishimuraya Yohachi (Eijudo), circa 1794-5; with collector's seal of Gerhard Pulverer to verso Vertical oban: 35.6 x 24.7 cm, 14 by 9¾ in. With brush between her fingers, the seated courtesan Morokoshi rests her head in her hand as she ponders over the composition of a poem. Poetry slips (tanzaku) rest on a red lacquer table beside a stack of books. The central cartouche contains a spray of tiger lily.
