PROPERTY FROM THE PULVERER COLLECTION OF JAPANESE PRINTS woodblock print, pink ground, from the series Actors in Private Life Matched with Beautiful Women (Natsu no Fuji bijin awase), signed Toyokuni ga (Pictured by Toyokuni), published by Izumiya Ichibei (Kansendo), circa 1802; with collector's seal of Gerhard Pulverer to verso Vertical oban: 37.6 x 25.2 cm, 14¾ by 9⅞ in. The kabuki actor Segawa Michisaburo I (d. 1839), also known by the name Arashi Riko I, watches a young woman arranging white chrysanthemums. He wears an outer robe emblazoned with oak-leaf crests (kashiwa mon) and his blue inner robe is decorated with stylised chrysanthemums.
