PROPERTY FROM A FRENCH PRIVATE COLLECTION drawing : 21.8 x 15.6 cm, 8⅝ by 6⅛ in. sheet: 30.9 x 23.4 cm, 12⅛ by 9¼ in. Antoine Louis Henri Polier, born in Lausanne in 1741, was a leading figure in the British East India Company and an avid collector of Indian manuscripts and miniatures. Beginning with three albums given to him in 1767, Polier continued to assemble albums focused on scenes of Indian life thought to satisfy European tastes.
