拍品描述
Height 14.3 cm, 5⅝ in. This elegant sculpture depicts Shiva as Lord of Dance in the iconic four-armed posture surrounded by a ring of flames, holding fire in his upper left hand and a damaru in the right, dancing with left leg raised and the right trampling a dwarf, the symbol of ignorance, lying on a tall tiered pedestal. For a discussion of the iconography see Vidya Dehejia, The Sensuous and the Sacred: Chola Bronzes from South India, American Federation of Arts, 2002, pp 94-105.
