Following the superb sale of The Trudy and John Neville Cohen Collection of Chinese Jade and Hardstone Pendants, Snuff Bottles and Carvings (Bonhams Hong Kong, 5 May 2025), Bonhams is delighted to present The Trudy and John Neville Cohen Collection of Chinese Snuff Bottles and Jade Carvings at New Bond St., London. Assembled between the early 1970s and late 1990s, the collection reflects the shared passions of Trudy and John, who built upon John's family legacy of collecting Chinese art while developing their own taste. Snuff bottles and jades in particular embodied their appreciation for both fine gemstones and Chinese art. Lovingly and thoughtfully acquired from leading dealers including Hugh Moss, Marchant's, and Robert Hall, the collection has been widely admired by specialists in the field for its exceptional quality and for, as aptly described by Robert Hall, its "light-heartedness" and "slight touch of whimsy" which reflects the warmth and spirit of its collectors; and Clare Chu who noted: "Throughout their collecting days the Cohen's set themselves very high standards, judging pieces not only on an aesthetic level but with the additional criteria of quality, material and subject matter".
